Our Story:

Sunnyvale Christian School was founded on October 4th of 1979 by Irene Wetlesen. Our school began as a dream in her heart and became a reality as First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale embraced this ministry. The school began with only 4 students. It was a preschool filled with excitement and hopes for the future. Karen Grooms was the first principal. The school began to grow in numbers and soon included Kindergarten.

On March 1, 1987, the new building was opened and the whole church attended the ceremony as excitement filled their hearts, wanting to see what God was going to accomplish in and through their obedience. The school added 1st through 4th grades and soon added 5th and 6th grades.

In 1991 a fire destroyed much of the new building, but not the purposes of God. The building was replaced and classes continued. The preschool continued to grow and expand, and in 1997 a sister school named “Little Lambs” was opened in Santa Clara. An additional campus was opened at down the block at El Camino Christian Church, service over 300 students.

As a ministry of Crosswalk Church, Sunnyvale Christian School has been home to many teachers, staff, students and their families. The desire to give children a quality education and to show them the Love of Jesus remains our greatest priority as a family of believers.

Many children come back to visit Sunnyvale Christian School and relay their love and gratitude for the uniqueness that the school brings, which is a loving community that accepts each child where they are and loves them regardless of the challenges they may face.

Today, in 2010, we offer compassion and competence in the arms of grace.  Our preschool has been awarded the top honors by the city of Sunnyvale for three consecutive years.  Our Elementary school has weathered a very hard economic time in the heart of the Silicon Valley, and is thriving once again.

We have added a beautiful Apple Computer Lab and also Music curriculum to our Elementary school program.  We continue to focus on character development and celebrating our great cultural diversity.

Our Father in Heaven smiles down on us.  We seek to honor Jesus in all our ways, to acknowledge our creator and to invite the spirit to teach, protect and lead us on a daily basis.
